FATHER AND SON, Barry and Zac travel he world being sculptors. This is the final piece. A stool which is every artists working chair made in steel and the bronze figure painted with oil paint. If you look closely you can see a little face in the arms of the big figure.

here are some pictures of a wax I am going to caste into bronze on nov. 21st.

these are just close ups of the faces of the father-son portraits of good friends of mine.

the one on the top is the father Barry and in his arms on the bottom is a smaller version of my buddy boy Zac. i named my pieces after them because they go everywhere together and it is adorable. better pictures in bronze form to come after nov21st :)

This is one of two puppets I made for a video project. All the parts move including the mouth. I used it for a greenscreen project. THis was way fun to make. Video Will be posted in September.

I really cannot wait to get back into the metal shop. I left myself things to finish from last semester. I like to start the year off with things to work on. I also would like to do something with my glass flower. I would like to add some metal to it. I have an idea based on a really easy way of making stained glass that i learned. I am excited to experiment. All summer I have been sketching and trying to make things, but they havent quite measured up to anything more than interesting bits and pieces. Lately these bits and pieces have been coming together. I guess the thought of getting back into the studio is making me excited. I should probably take more pictures because I am not taking any of this stuff with me.

A piece I made for a performance based piece. This was made a couple of years ago. The head is caste from a plaster mold of a clay head I sculpted. The final material of the head is latex. I cut the mouth open so that I could stuff things in it. I put some needles and attached them to the string that is in the mouth. When the door of the box opens it pulls the string and all the needles would come out of the mouth which stretch the latex around the mouth and gives it a distorted look. It was way gross. I started this performance off with to box closed and had some balloons attached to the top of the piece. I filled them each with odd objects like glitter, sand, dyed water and other things that would make a mess. I got a heating gun and held it to the balloons as the exploded. It was something with the air of a puppet show. What i liked best about this one was making the actual objects for this and making a mess with the balloons.

I have been making jewelery since I was in the Fifth grade. That is also the grade in which I started selling jewelry. Since then I have been selling Jewelery up until about 2 years ago on and off.
I started out just making Jewelery for myself. At one point though, I really wanted snack money.
Since my stationary business fell through, I wasn't allowed to rent video tapes to student anymore, and I ran out of people who wanted to buy tree drawings with owls in them; I decided to sell my precious creations.
I quickly learned what sold and what didn't. At one point I was buying snacks for people, I was the coolest kid in class (or at least i felt that way). Then i got out of plastics and went into glass bead work. Which meant that the cost of my materials went up and I had to sell my jewels for higher prices. To be honest though kids my age were few and far between that understood the difference in value of plastic and glass and why it would be worth the money. I persisted through and still made snack money. I payed attention to what styles people were willing to pay for; in this case it was choker's with slightly complicated bead work. I even had a team of creators for a while in 8Th grade. Then I got into semi-precious gemstones and using silver and gold wire, I never got my monies worth in selling these things, but for me the fact that people wanted to buy what I was creating was thrilling. For while I fueled my creations with more creations. Now, I have this amazing bead collection of things I was "saving." As I hang out in my dads apartment and am reunited with my beads I had this sudden realization that all the wonderful beads I had were just waiting for me to make some funky fresh Jewelery and I didn't have to worry this time about whether or not people would buy it. When I last had access to my bead collection I didn't have the experience of the past 2 years of making art that has no need to be bought. So I am taking this attitude towards my jewelery and seeing what happens. I can't wait to put up more of what i have made.

This Necklace has a very summery
elegant look; which would be good to
wear with a cute summery dress.I actually have the perfect dress for this but I will refrain from describing its utter cuteness. (it's ruffly...FUN!) The blue stones are aquamarines that have been faceted. The gold beads are corrugated spacers and the yellow
beads are seed beads much like those
seen in Native American bead work.

This neon burst of color is made with
Flourescent infused clear seed beads and smaller white seed beads used as spacers. The hanging ball of beads is made by coiling strings of beads around a larger bead until it is covered. I really wanted to experiment with these beads because they are pretty outrageious looking. I didn't want to take away from the cool colors but at the same time I had no interest in making something boring. This look is interesting and at the same time not overbearing.

I would wear this with something simple like a white tank top and blue jeans.

This is an idea I have had for a while. FURRY NAILS! Just the thought of girls brushing their nails gives me chills. I don't really know why I wanted to make them. I have always liked to be girlie and dress up; but I have also had this odd felling that I am in costume when I do. When putting on dress, makeup, jewelery, and high heels i can't help but feel as though I am putting on a show. Sometimes I even get into character because it makes me feel super feminine like a sexy vixen. I really just feel like it is another facet of my personality. Although I sometimes get annoyed by girlie things because it gets harder and harder the more i sculpt to wear all the stupid things i used to once spend obnoxious amounts of time putting on (like nail polish which can ruin a drawing when it rubs off on the paper). So this idea stands as an ode to the ridiculousness of acrylic nails as pertaining to my art life. I love my creation. It is all at once gross and beautiful, like childbirth.

Today I want to The Toledo Musuem of Art and I saw some great stuff. What I was most impressed by was the beauty of glasswork. They gave this glass blowing Demo which was a pretty stardard Glass blwoing demo. Anyone who has been to a renaisance fair knows what I mean. The thing that was cool about this was that they had an interactive demo. So my dad said he would pay for me to do it and I was psyched. It was pretty cheap. They showed me how to make a glass flower. It was SO MUCH fun and intense too. Although it has similaries to metal work it is in a complete field of it's own. I really want to do this again someday. Someday soon.I get ot pick up my flower on tuesday so I will post more pictures then. It was great to be around some art today it was refreshing. I really love the mix of fire and art. Glass is cool beause it is so soft and liquid when you work with it and then it starts to cool and is so quick to become solid from such a liquid state. I have to take some pictures of my glass casting i made last semester and put them up. I also want to make a steel stand for it. Maybe I will find some way to incorporate steel with my flower too, endless posibilities, WONDERFUL!

Here is a picture of my studio from last semester. the right half of this picture is my freind Dan's side of our space. We chose to share because when I work on bigger pieces I use a lot of floor space and he works on his table space.

This piece is about two yards long. It is made of paper pulp which was dyed with pigments. This paper piece was also stenciled with spray paint. I wanted to use very bright colors and fun moving lines to create an explosion of colors.

A purse I made over winter break

this purse was a a lot of fun to ma ke and wear. I put a simple greeting on to represent friendliness. As a function of causing friendly interactions the purse wor ks really well. People always shout "HEY" at me. It's a pretty exciting thing to wear.

this Is the beginning of a metal figure I just recently finished it is about 7 ft 5 in. tall. It is made up of steel pieces that have been outside and weathered. The rusted nature of these pieces lends itself to represent the mood I was going for; which i will describe in further detail with the final picture of the piece. I stick welded the base for my piece and the rest of the figure is MIG welded.

I have since put petina's on these pieces. (pictures to come after summer) . Excuse the bad photography I tooke these pictures in a hurry with a mediocre camera that I borrowed so the larger pictures seem very out of focus. These are some of my favorite pieces I made all semester. The piece with the legs is the 3D printed object that I dipped in wax, put in investment, burned out, and caste in bronze. Although it is not as detailed as I would have liked while making the piece I am very glad that I have gotten a chance to learn how to make something that was once in a computer out of bronze. Next year I will work to better my skills. Also on figuring what I will do with the objects I am making, because although the two that I didnt print have a cohessive voice I still havent solved the question of how to properly show them.

Here is my 3d printed object. it is made up of triangular prisms which I then turned into a lattice using 3d studio max and morphed using z brush.

So lately most of my work has been computer based. which is odd for me seeing as I dont really ever get ot touch it. BUT NOW I do thanks to the amazing 3d printer we have here.here's a sample of something i could end up printing.

the permanence of art.

This piece was created in December out of painted steel shelving from old refrigerators that I found in a dumpster. I bent them and left open spaces that I filled with scrap metal pieces that I bent. I used a MIG welder to put all of the pieces together. the bottom of the piece came out less organically than I wanted and looks quite like the form of a dress. The idea for the piece completely transformed while I was making it because of how caught up I got in the things the found objects i had could do with lines and movement. Once I figured out how great my objects were I transformed my idea to fit with the nature of the materials i was using. In this piece i struggled with giving up multiple ideas to create more coherency in my form and create something that I felt has a solid voice. I really love this form and it means a lot to me. I got my first big burn from welding on this piece right on my neck at 4 a.m. because the metal shop was closing and I decided to do one last quick weld; when i went to put the Sculpture up i saw something on the ground that I had to put away next to the piece. I bent over and my weld that I had just made snapped into my neck and scratch it and first and then as I continued bending over it burned the rest of the way up my neck. It didn't really hurt but it looks horrible and it still itches sometimes.
